Take Five

Nudge – Take Five

Leaders, your mission should you choose to accept it is to back yourself out of a meeting. Start with this; plan to arrive to this meeting five minutes late. Let your team know that you are going to be late and you want them to start without you.

Let them start with out you and when you show up, don’t take over! Just let them keep running the meeting. Come in. Go sit in the back. Stay quiet. Let me know how it goes!

My leadership nudge to you this week is this:

Take five. Let your teams get a meeting rolling without you, and let them run the meeting.

Leaders develop others. In a climate that is supportive and is focused on a shared view of success, leaders should always be preparing others to take their position and beyond. I would contend that the leader be purposeful and act with intent. In this scenario, I would rather encourage, expect and foster the conducting of business without needing the leader on a regular basis. The whole time, the leader should be coaching with deliberate action rather than an act of impromptu circumstance.
